TMGR: Dropdown Field Keeps Focus when Another Cell Is Clicked (161826)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q161826 SYMPTOMS
If the dropdown list is displayed in a dropdown field like Priority, then
clicking a different cell closes the dropdown list in the first cell, but
the first cell keeps focus. Depending on the field and the sequence of
typing or selecting, the first cell may keep its displayed value, or revert
to a previous value, or become blank.
This can happen to the Marked, Milestone, Priority, and Status predefined
fields, to custom Yes/No type fields, and to custom Currency, Duration,
Integer, Number, Percent, and Text, type fields that include a list of Type
Choices.
WORKAROUND
Before clicking in a different cell, make sure the dropdown list in the
first cell is closed. It can be closed by pressing the ENTER key or by
clicking the dropdown arrow.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Team Manager 97.
We are researching this problem and will post more information here in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATION
The problem is less likely to occur in dropdown fields with restricted
choices. This includes the Marked, Milestone, Priority, and Status
predefined fields, custom Yes/No type fields, and custom Currency,
Duration, Integer, Number, Percent, and Text, type fields that use a Type
Choices list without the "Allow other values to be typed" option. Selecting
an item from the dropdown closes it, so normally the dropdown is not
displayed when a different cell is clicked. It is possible to deliberately
display the dropdown after selecting an item. Clicking a different cell
while the dropdown list is displayed may change the value displayed in the
first cell. In that case, the value in the first cell can be reselected
from the list.
The problem has a greater impact on custom dropdown fields that allow
values to be entered that are not in the list. This includes Custom
Currency, Duration, Integer, Number, Percent, and Text, type fields that
that use a Type Choices list with "Allow other values to be typed".
Clicking a different cell while the dropdown list is displayed may change
the value displayed in the first cell. In that case, the value in the first
cell can be reselected or retyped.
