TMGR: Reschedule From Date Is One Day Later Than Chosen (161787)

SYMPTOMS

After using the Reschedule From command on the Tools menu, the date in the Schedule From field for a person is one day later than the "Remaining work should start on or after" reschedule date specified in the Reschedule From dialog. Also, any remaining work that the person has on working days prior to or on the specified reschedule date is converted to actual work.

This happens if a person has remaining work on working days prior to, or on the specified reschedule date in the Reschedule From dialog, and the "Assume work scheduled prior to the new start date is done" option is selected.

WORKAROUND

The first topic below explains how to repair incorrect actual work that the Reschedule From command may have entered. The second topic explains how to use the Reschedule From command to mark actuals as desired.

Repairing Incorrect Actuals

The Edit Undo command can not be used to undo the results of the Reschedule From command. If the Reschedule From command has incorrectly entered actual work for a person up to and including the day that the person's remaining work should start, then manually correct those actuals as follows:

  1. Click the Tasks tab, and from the view banner dropdown list, select Actual Work.
  2. Near the upper right corner of the window, move the timescale slider to the leftmost position to format the timescale for weeks over days.
  3. For each task that the person works on, double click the task folder icon in front of the task name to display the assignment rows.
  4. In the grid under the timescale, for each of the person's assignments and for each day prior to the reschedule date, enter the correct actual work or delete it if there is none. Delete the actual work on the reschedule date.
The person's Schedule From field in the People tab Profile Information view should now show the correct Schedule From date.

Using Reschedule From to Mark Actuals

In the Reschedule From dialog, when using the option to mark prior work as done, enter a date that is one day earlier than the date that remaining work is really to begin. This is done as follows:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Reschedule From.
  2. To reschedule specific people, in the For These People dropdown list, click All People to deselect it, and then click the person(s) to be rescheduled. (Skip this step if rescheduling all people).
  3. Click "Assume work scheduled prior to the new start date is done" to select it.
  4. In the Reschedule From dialog box click the arrow by "Remaining work should start on or after",and choose a date that is one day earlier than the day that the person(s) should really begin remaining work.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Team Manager 97. We are researching this problem and will post more information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

The Schedule From date for a person is always at least one day after the last day containing actual work for the person, and remaining work is scheduled on or after the Schedule From date. To view the Schedule From field, click the People Tab and from the View Banner, select Profile Information and select the person in the left pane.

The Reschedule From command can be used to change the Schedule From date for all or specified people, but you cannot change it to a date that is on or before the last day a person has actual work. To use the Reschedule From command, on the Tools menu click Reschedule From.

NOTE: After using the For These People dropdown list, the "Remaining work should start on or after" reschedule date may need to be reseleted.

If the "Assume work scheduled prior to the new start date is done" option is selected and the person has remaining work, then the person's Schedule From field is incorrectly set to a day later than the specified reschedule date. Scheduled work is converted to actual work on working days up to and including the specified date, rather than before it.
