This article was previously published under Q161786

SYMPTOMS

The Daily Limit and Hours Per Day for an assignment are in conflict with a person's Working Times, and the task is marked with the following Red Alert:
Team Manager cannot schedule this task either due to the daily limit constraints or because the schedule would exceed Team Manager's scheduling limit of the year 2050.

CAUSE

Originally, the Daily Limit for an assignment was set to Work At Least or Work Exactly, and a value was entered for Hours Per Day that did not conflict with the person's Working Times. Later the person's Working Times was edited so that it conflicts with the assignment Daily Limit and Hours Per Day specified earlier. No warning or error message is displayed, although the task is marked with a Red Alert as described above.

RESOLUTION

Use either of the methods below, or a combination of both, to resolve the conflict:

Method 1

Edit the Daily Limit and Hours Per Day for the assignment so they no longer conflict with the person's Working Times:

  1. Click the Tasks tab and on the view banner dropdown list, click Task Organizer.
  2. Click the task and on the Edit menu, click Task Properties. Click the Scheduling tab and click Daily Limits & Overtime. In the Daily Limits dialog, look in the People Assigned field to locate the appropriate assignment record.
  3. In the Daily Limit field, choose something other than Work At Most or Work Exactly, or reduce the value in the Hours Per Day field so that it does not conflict with the person's Working Times. Click OK. Click OK again.

Method 2

Edit the person's Working Times so that it does not conflict with the assignment Daily Limit and Hours Per Day:

  1. Click the People tab and from the View Banner dropdown list, select Working Times.
  2. In the left pane, click the person's name.
  3. In the right pane, select the appropriate date range or days of the week, and in the upper right corner of the window, click the Edit Working Times button.
  4. Edit the person's shift Hours so they do not conflict with the assignment and then click OK.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

It is possible to edit a person's Working Times so it is in conflict with an assignment's Daily Limit and Hours Per Day; it is not possible to edit the assignment's Daily Limit and Hours Per Day so they are in conflict with the Working Times. Attempting to do so results in the following message:
This Daily Limit is larger than the available working time for this person.

Either decrease the daily limit or increase the standard working times for this by person by switching to the Working Times view on the People tab. On the Edit menu, click Working Times.
The message box has Try Again, and Clear It buttons.

NOTE: If the conflict occurred by editing the person's Working Times, then the Daily Limits dialog box can be closed without saving editing changes, leaving the assignment in a state of conflict.
