In PowerPoint 97, you can draw flow charts and diagrams easily using connectors. When you use any of the AutoShapes on the Connectors palette, you can draw connecting lines so that each can be attached to an object, and the ends stay attached as the shapes are moved and resized. As you insert a connector, blue dots appear at various points on the object indicating where you can attach the connector.

You can use three types of connector lines to connect objects: straight, angled, and curved. When you rearrange the objects, the connectors remain attached. If you move either end of a connector, that end detaches from the object. You can then attach it to another object. To detach the entire connector, drag the connector by its middle.

To add a connector, follow these steps:
  1. On the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes, point to a category, and then click the connector you want.
  2. Point where you want to attach the connector. Connection sites appear as blue squares. Click the connection site.

    You can drag the connector to attach it to another object, and then click a new connection site. Locked connectors (those attached to a shape) appear as red squares. Unlocked connectors appear as green squares.
