Vague Message Entering Large People Assigned Work Value (161178)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Team Manager

This article was previously published under Q161178

SYMPTOMS

When you enter a value that exceeds the maximum allowed work in the People Assigned drop-down box for a task, you may receive the following error message:
This is not a valid work value. Please enter a work value in the correct format: for example, 12 days or 12d.
The message incorrectly implies that you entered an invalid format, rather than that the value you entered is too large.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The maximum value for a task or assignment work field is 2,236,962.1 hours or 279620.26 days.

You will receive a more meaningful message if you enter a value that is too large in a work field outside of the People Assigned drop-down box. For example, if you enter 279620.27 days in the Total Work field for a task, you receive the following message:
"279620.27 days" is not a valid work value or is outside the range of this column. Either reduce the work value or make sure it is in the correct format: for example, 12 days or 12d.
