Progress indicator may not seem to accurately reflect the time that is required to complete a process in Outlook (161059)

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you perform a process in Microsoft Outlook, a progress indicator appears in the Outlook status bar. For example, if you import a file into Outlook or perform a Send/Receive operation, a progress indicator appears in the status bar. However, the percentages that appear in the progress indicator may not seem to accurately reflect the time that is required to complete the process.

CAUSE

In Outlook, the progress indicator measures the percentage of steps that have been completed in a process. The progress indicator does not measure the percentage of time that the process takes. For example, if there are 10 internal steps in a process, the progress indicator adds 10 percent for each step that is completed. This is regardless of the actual time that each step requires. The progress indicator measures processes, not time.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
