PPT97: Error Linking to Free Stuff from PowerPoint Central (161027)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q161027 SYMPTOMS
Slide Two of the PowerPoint Central presentation (Ppcentrl.pps) contains
a hyperlink named:
See the free stuff on my Office 97 CD-ROM.
If you are running a copy of PowerPoint that you installed from a network,
and you try to follow this link, you may receive this error message:
Could not open <path>\valupack\overview.pps. Please make sure the
Office CD is available. If you installed from the network, please
ask your network administrator to copy the valupack files also.
CAUSE
The Office and PowerPoint 97 compact discs contain a folder named
ValuPack. This folder contains additional fonts, templates, clips, and
add-ons for the Microsoft Office 97 products. When you run a network
administrative setup of Office or PowerPoint (Setup /A), Setup creates a
folder called ValuPack underneath the Office folder. However, most of the
additional content in the \ValuPack folder on the compact disc is not
copied to this folder.
One file which is not copied to the network server is Overview.pps. This
is the file to which the PowerPoint Central presentation links. Setup
does not copy the Value Pack material to the network server in order to
save disk space.
RESOLUTION
If you want to be able to use the Value Pack material, you must manually
copy the contents of the \ValuPak folder on your Office 97 or PowerPoint
97 compact disc to the \ValuPak folder on your network server.
