This article was previously published under Q160958 SYMPTOMS
When you receive a mail message containing a shortcut to a mail folder, you
cannot drag the shortcut from the mail message to the Outlook bar.
CAUSE
Outlook 97 does not support this type of drag-and-drop procedure.
WORKAROUND
There are two methods of adding folder shortcuts to the Outlook bar,
depending on if the shortcut is to a public folder or a shared private
folder.
If the shortcut is to a public folder:
- On the View menu, click Folder List to display the folder list.
- Use the mouse pointer to move to the desired public folder.
- Drag the selected folder from the folder list to the Outlook bar.
If the shortcut is to a shared private folder in an Exchange Server
mailbox:
- On the Tools menu, click Services.
- Click Properties for Microsoft Exchange Server.
- Click the Add button on the Advanced tab to specify the shared
mailbox you want to access. This will add that mailbox to your
folder list.
- Click OK three times to quit the Tools menu.
- On the View menu, click Folder List to display the desired folder.
- Drag the selected folder from the folder list to the Outlook bar.
MORE INFORMATION
Even though you cannot drag a folder shortcut directly from a message to
the Outlook bar, you can drag it to the desktop. This creates an icon that
starts Outlook with the focus on the appropriate folder.
