Err. Msg.: The Access Code Is Invalid (160788)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Proxy Server 1.0
This article was previously published under Q160788 SYMPTOMS
When you try to connect through Microsoft Proxy Server 1.0, your Web
browser may display the following error message:
The Proxy Server has encountered an error (The access code is invalid).
CAUSE
This error message is returned when you try to access the proxy server from
an invalid interface.
For example, if the Proxy Server is connected to your internal network and
the Internet and the Web browser resolves your Proxy Server's IP address to
the Internet IP address instead of the internal IP address, you will get
the above error message.
You can also get the above error message if the internal network protocol
is IPX and the 10.0.0.0 through 10.255.255.255 addresses are not
configured in the Local Address Table (LAT).
WORKAROUND
Verify that the Local Address Table (LAT) contains only the IP addresses of
your internal network clients (including the IP address of the internal
network card on the proxy server).
Verify that your web clients are resolving to the address of the intranet
network card. To test, PING your Proxy Server's name or DNS name and make
note of the address that is returned. If the address belongs to the
Internet network card, correct it by checking your WINS server, DNS server,
or LMHOSTS files.
