PUB97: Pictures Turn Black under Windows NT (160588)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher 97
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
This article was previously published under Q160588 SYMPTOMS
Under Windows NT, when you dynamically change the color depth of your
display from 256 colors to 65,536 colors, some of the bitmaps on the
visible page in Microsoft Publisher 97 turn very dark or black.
CAUSE
Publisher 97 does not refresh its display when the color depth of the
display changes under Windows NT. Because of this, when the display
driver tries to display the bitmap to the screen, it has no color
information for the higher color depth, and shows the picture as
mostly black.
RESOLUTION
To have the bitmaps appear normally, force Publisher to refresh its
display. One way to do this is to press the F9 key twice. You can
also change to another page and then change back.
STATUS
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
