The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Commercial Internet System 1.0

This article was previously published under Q159913

SYMPTOMS

The following unique set of circumstances must be true before the General Protection Fault will occur:
  • Broker Server is running Windows NT version 4.0 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows NT, and Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) version 1.0 without Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Membership Services (MBS).
  • Client is running Microsoft Authentication Proxy for Netscape (MAPN), upgraded with SP1 for MBS, and using SSL3.
When the above conditions are true, the ISAPI filter, Sicssl.dll, can send bad information to Inetinfo.exe, and kill the process.

RESOLUTION

This problem is resolved by upgrading the Broker with SP1 for MBS. It is recommended that every Broker upgrade with SP1 for MBS as soon as possible.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System, version 1.0.
