Neverhood: Error Messages When Running 16 Display Colors (158968)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to start The Neverhood while your display settings are set for 16 colors, you receive the following error messages:
Microsoft Directdraw:
You must be running in 256 color mode or higher.
You can change the color depth from the Control Panel
Display icon.
Followed by:
DirectDrawCreate Error:
Undefined Error!
And then:
Neverhood:
Unable to initialize DirectDraw.

RESOLUTION

The Neverhood requires your display to be 256 colors or higher. Change the number of display colors from 16 to 256 in Display Properties from Control Panel.

To change the number of display colors in Windows, do the following:
  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Display.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. In the Color Palette or Colors box, click 256 Color.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Restart The Neverhood.
