FIX: A Derived Table in the Group By Clause Causes Handled AV (158806)

SYMPTOMS
A SELECT statement using a derived table in the Group By clause may cause a
handled access violation (AV). In addition, the access violation's stack
dump may go into a state where it continuously writes the stack to the
errorlog. If this occurs, the errorlog will grow very quickly.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, do not use derived tables in the Group By clause.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server
version 6.50. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 2 for
Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. For more information, contact your
primary support provider.
