DreamWorks: AutoRun Disabled After Product Installation (158536)

The information in this article applies to:

  • DreamWorks Interactive, The Neverhood 1.0
  • DreamWorks Interactive, Scholastic's Goosebumps Series: Escape from Horrorland 1.0

This article was previously published under Q158536

SYMPTOMS

After you install the one of the products listed at the top of this article, you cannot use the AutoRun feature of Windows 95.

CAUSE

The registry key responsible for AutoRun gets changed during the installation. This disables the AutoRun feature in Windows. Goosebumps: Escape from Horrorland turns off Auto Insert notifications while it is running and turns them back on when it exits.

If you exit a game abnormally (for example, turning off the machine while Goosebumps:Escape from Horrorland is running), AutoRun will still be turned off. You can turn it back on by running Goosebumps: Escape from Horrorland and exiting the game normally.

RESOLUTION

  1. Remove and reinstall the program that disabled AutoRun.
  2. Start a game and exit it normally.
  3. AutoRun should now be enabled.
