This article was previously published under Q158331 SYMPTOMS
When you run H/PC Explorer or an H/PC add-on program that requires a
connection from a desktop computer to the Handheld PC (H/PC), you may
receive the following error message on the H/PC:
Cannot start communications with the desktop computer. Remote
networking could not start due to a critical error (Error 754).
Please reconnect the H/PC. If the problem persists, restart the H/PC
using the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
CAUSE
This problem can occur when you start the Network Control Protocol (NCP)
layer of PPP if there is not enough available program memory.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Tap the Start button, tap Settings, and then double-tap System.
- Tap the Memory tab, and then move the slider to the left to free at
least 135K of program memory.
If you continue to experience the problem, save all your data and then
reset your H/PC. Resetting the H/PC frees as much program memory as
possible.
