This article was previously published under Q158110 SYMPTOMS
After you type a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) into a new mail message,
you cannot edit the URL by placing the pointer on the URL with a mouse
click; instead, this action activates the hyperlink.
CAUSE
Microsoft Outlook resolves the URL address to a hyperlink immediately when

If you click a resolved URL, Outlook tries to activate the hyperlink.
This behavior is by design.
WORKAROUND
Use the ARROW keys to move the insertion point into the text of the URL
instead of clicking the URL with the mouse. After the insertion point is
within the URL text, you can edit it as needed.
-or-
If you use Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor, you can use the right
mouse button to click the URL, and then click Update Field on the shortcut
menu You can then edit the URL.
