SUMMARY

Works allows you to use spelling dictionaries other than those provided with Works if the additional dictionaries are correctly installed. Works uses the system Registry to obtain information about the available spelling dictionaries.

MORE INFORMATION

You can modify your Registry settings to allow Works to use additional spelling dictionaries.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

  1. If Works is running, on the File menu, click Exit.
  2. Click Start, and click Run.
  3. Type regedit and click OK.
  4. On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File.
  5. Type a file name in the File Name box; in the Save In box, click the location where you want to save a backup copy of the Registry and then click Save.
  6. Open
     My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Works\4.0\MS
       Proofing Tools
  7. You will see keys for SpellDict1 and SpellDict2, which are provided by Works. You can add additional keys for additional dictionaries following the same syntax. For example, you could add the following key:
          SpellDict3 Italiano:Spelling 1040,0

To add a key, follow these steps:
    1. On the Edit menu, point to New, and click String Value.
    2. Type SpellDict3 and press the ENTER key.
    3. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
    4. In the Value Data section, type the information for the dictionary you want to add. For this example, you would type:

      Italiano:Spelling 1040,0

    5. Click OK.
  8. You should also change the reference at
    My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
       Software\Microsoft\Works\4.0\MS Proofing Tools
