XL97: FindPrevious Method Does Not Support Discontiguous Range (158083)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q158083

SYMPTOMS

When you use the FindPrevious method, the incorrect address is returned if you use this method on a range of discontiguous cells.

CAUSE

The algorithm used by the FindPrevious method enumerates (counts or searches) the cell references in a forward direction while the cells themselves are being enumerated in reverse order.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The FindPrevious method continues a search started with the Find method. It finds the previous cell matching the same conditions and returns a range object that represents that cell. The FindPrevious method does not affect the current selection or the active cell.
