PUB97: "Mspub.exe Is Linked to Missing Export" Error Message After Setup (157536)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher 97, when used with:
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
This article was previously published under Q157536 SYMPTOMS
After you install Publisher 97 over Publisher for Windows 95, version
3.0, you receive the following error message when you start Publisher:
Mspub.exe is linked to missing export: Pubole32.dll: _matgeti
dispatch. A device attached to this system is not functioning
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Publisher\Mspub.exe.
CAUSE
If you install Publisher 97 over Publisher 3.0, you may have two
copies of the file Pubole32.dll. One may be in the Publisher folder
and the other in the C:\Windows\System folder (or the
C:\Winnt\System32 folder, if you run Windows NT.)
RESOLUTION
To correct this error, search your hard drive(s) for multiple versions
of Pubole32.dll. Make sure that you have only one copy of this file.
This copy should be in the C:\Windows\System (or C:\Windows\System32)
folder, have a file date of 8/6/96, and a file size of 65,536.
Rename (or delete) any other copies of this file that you find.
If you have no copies of this file with the correct date and file
size, you can get a copy of the file by doing the following:
- Rename all copies of Pubole32.dll.
- Start Publisher 97 Setup.
- In the Maintenance Mode screen, click the Reinstall button.
- Insert the Publisher 97 compact disc or disks when Setup asks
you to.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
