TMGR: Changing Button Size Rearranges Anchored Toolbars (153349)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Team Manager, switching from large to small toolbar buttons, or from small to large, causes all toolbars anchored at the same side of the window to be randomly rearranged and re-anchored to that side of the window, overriding any previous manual positioning. This happens if there is more than one toolbar anchored or docked.

MORE INFORMATION

A toolbar is said to be anchored to a side of the screen when it is displayed on the side of the screen and is not in a separate window with its own title bar.

The View menu's Toolbars command allows you to create, delete, rename, customize, show, or hide toolbars. It also contains Show ToolTips and Large Buttons options. The Large Buttons option controls whether large or small buttons are displayed on all toolbars. Changing the Large Buttons option has the following effects on visible toolbars:

  • For toolbars anchored at the top or bottom side of the screen, as many toolbars as possible are randomly positioned in one row. If a row becomes completely full, then the last toolbar placed in that row runs off the screen, and the next toolbar begins on the next row below.
  • For toolbars anchored at the left or right side of the screen, as many toolbars as possible are randomly positioned in one column. If a column becomes completely full, then the last toolbar placed in that column runs off the screen, and the next toolbar begins on the next column to the right.
  • Unanchored toolbars remain unanchored, although the width and height of its window may change, and the upper-left corner may be slightly repositioned.
For example, if the Large Buttons option is not selected, and if the default Standard and Tools toolbars are anchored at the top of the screen, one toolbar per row, then selecting the Large Buttons option will cause both toolbars to appear on a single row.

WORKAROUND

To change the Large Buttons option and maintain the relative positions of anchored toolbars, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, click Toolbars. Take note of which toolbars are selected, and then deselect them all.
  2. Change the Large Buttons option as desired. Click OK.
  3. On the View menu, click Toolbars, and re-select all the toolbars that were originally selected. Click OK.
