SUMMARY

If a team manager using Microsoft Team Manager replies to a workgroup message, such as Team Assign, from a project manager using Microsoft Project, the team manager can reply to the message and include multi-line notes. When the project manager opens the reply from the team manager, only the first line of notes are displayed in the Comments field of the Microsoft Project message form; if the Comments field is selected, the complete notes are displayed in the message edit bar, but hard returns are displayed as a pair of vertical bars.

If the project manager is viewing a reply to a Team Assign or Team Status, an "Update Project" button is available; if the project manager updates the project, then the team manager's name, the date, and any multi-line notes are appended to the multi-line Notes field of the appropriate tasks. Multi-line notes are displayed correctly in the Task Information Notes tab area.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Project message forms only allow a single line of comments to be entered in the Comments field, whereas Team Manager message forms allow multi-line notes. Team Manager message forms include a field that has a Notes icon in the title and in the grid. Double-clicking the Notes icon in the grid allows multi-line notes to be viewed when reading a message, and created or edited when replying to a message.

An exception is that if a team manager replies to a Team Status from a project manager, the project manager receives a message titled "RE: TeamStatus." If the project manager replies to that message, then the team manager also receives a message titled "RE: TeamStatus." When the team manager opens the "RE: TeamStatus" message, the Notes icons are missing, and the message instead includes a field titled Notes that behaves exactly as the Microsoft Project message Comments field.

NOTE: A hard return consists of a carriage return character (ASCII character 13) and a new-line character (ASCII character 10).
