SUMMARY

Wordpad and Notepad for Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Millennium Edition (Me) do not request the size of the DEVMODE structure when the printer driver is not the default driver.

MORE INFORMATION

When you change the default printer driver from the Print Setup dialog box in Wordpad or Notepad, do not request the size of the DEVMODE structure. Instead of calling the printer drivers ExtDeviceMode function with wMode = 0 first, and then calling ExtDeviceMode function with wMode = 10 (DM_COPY and DM_MODIFY), both Wordpad and Notepad call the ExtDeviceMode function with wMode = 10 directly.

This is incorrect. All applications are first required to request the size of DEVMODE structure and then call ExtDeviceMode with the DM_COPY and DM_MODIFY flags set.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
