Internet Starter Kit Opens URL in Default Browser (149603)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 for Windows 95
- Microsoft Internet Starter Kit 2.0
This article was previously published under Q149603 SYMPTOMS
When you click a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) from the Microsoft
Internet Explorer 2.0 demonstration started by the Microsoft Internet
Starter Kit, the default installed browser displays the page.
For example, if Netscape Navigator is your default Internet browser and
you click a URL using the More History or Open Favorites command in the
Internet Explorer 2.0 demonstration, Netscape Navigator displays the page,
not Internet Explorer.
CAUSE
When you click More History or Open Favorites, Internet Explorer starts
Windows Explorer. When you double-click a URL, Windows Explorer starts the
program that is associated with .htm files.
Note that if your default installed browser is associated with other
file types, such as .gif or .jpg files, opening these files with Windows
Explorer also launches your default installed browser.
The Internet Starter Kit is not designed to change file associations for
programs that are already installed.
MORE INFORMATION
The icon that appears beside a URL in My Computer and Windows Explorer
is the icon for the Internet browser that is associated with these files.
If you install Internet Explorer 2.0 from the Internet Starter Kit, you
are prompted whether you want to change your default Internet browser to
Internet Explorer. If you click Yes, the file types associated with your
previous default Internet browser are associated with Internet Explorer.
