SUMMARY

When you try to insert ClipArt using ClipArt Gallery, the gallery may not contain any images and you cannot add images. This can be caused by a missing file or an incorrect entry in the Windows Registry.

MORE INFORMATION

To locate Artgalry.cag do the following:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, then click Files Or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type Artgalry.cag. Ensure the drive containing Windows is located in the Look In box.
  3. Click Find Now.
If the file is not listed, there is invalid information in the Windows Registry. To correct this problem, run Works Setup and Remove All. Then run Works Setup again to reinstall Works.

NOTE: When you choose the Remove All option, you will be prompted to remove certain shared components. Click Keep for all components EXCEPT ClipArt Gallery (click Remove).

If the file is listed, it will be shown in the bottom section of the Find dialog box. Use the right mouse button to click on the file and click Rename on the menu that appears; rename the file, Artgalry.old. Run Works Setup to remove and reinstall the ClipArt files for Works. You may also need to run Setup for other programs that store their clipart images in ClipArt Gallery.

For additional information on how shared components are added or removed during a Maintenance Mode Setup, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

135575 Maintenance Mode Setup Does Not Remove Shared Components

When you select ClipArt for the first time, individual .cag files are merged into the Artgalry.cag file. Then these individual files are removed because they are in Artgalry.cag.

If Artgalry.cag is removed from the Artgalry folder and you try to insert ClipArt, a new Artgalry.cag is created; but it will not contain thumbnail images for installed .pcs files. The original Artgalry.cag contained images made during the initial merge of all .cag files into the Artgalry.cag file. The only way to add the missing .pcs files to Artgalry.cag is to remove and reinstall the ClipArt.
