SUMMARY
Microsoft Mail for PC Networks supports three methods of exchanging address
lists:
- The Directory Synchronization process
- The External-Admin, Export Command
- The Import Utility
Of these three methods, Microsoft Exchange Server provides an equivalent
command for all of them except the Microsoft Mail for PC Networks External-
Admin, Export command.
MORE INFORMATION
Microsoft Exchange Server uses Directory Synchronization to share address
information with other messaging systems, including Microsoft Mail for PC
Networks. In addition, Microsoft Exchange Server provides the Directory
Import and Directory Export commands.
Microsoft Exchange Server does not support the Microsoft Mail for PC
Networks' External-Admin, Export command. If an administrator distributes
their Postoffice user list to the Microsoft Exchange Server's Microsoft
Mail Connector Postoffice by running the Microsoft Mail for PC Networks
Administrator's program and selecting External-Admin, Export, a nondelivery
report will be returned to the Microsoft PC Mail Administrator's mailbox
with the following error message:
[025] Exported user list is not supported on this postoffice.
If Directory Synchronization is not configured, you can use the following
alternative to exchange address information between Microsoft Exchange
Server and Microsoft Mail for PC Networks.
The Microsoft Mail for PC Networks Import utility can be used to extract
the Postoffice address list to a text file, which can then be edited to the
appropriate Microsoft Exchange Server Import file format. The format of the
command is:
import admin -p<password> -xNET/PO -f<ex_file>.txt -d<drive>
where NET/PO represents the Postoffice address list to extract and
<ex_file>.txt is the extracted import-format text file.
Once the Import file is in the correct format, use the Microsoft Exchange
Administrator Directory Import command, accessed via the Tools menu, to
import the Microsoft Mail addresses into the Exchange Server address list.
The Microsoft Exchange Administrator Tools, Directory Export menu option
can be used to export the Microsoft Exchange recipients list to a text
file, which can then be edited to the appropriate Microsoft PC Mail Import
file format. Once the Import file is in the correct format, the Microsoft
Mail for PC Networks Import command can be used to import the Microsoft
Exchange addresses into the Microsoft Mail Postoffice address list. The
format of the command is:
import admin -p<password> -f<ex_file.txt> -d<drive>
where <ex_file>.txt is the edited import-format text file created by the
Microsoft Exchange Directory Export command.

Directory Import and Export commands, refer to the following sections of
the Microsoft Exchange "Server Administrator's Guide":

- For Directory Import and Export commands, see Chapter 15, pages 476-487.
For information regarding the file format used with the Microsoft Exchange
Directory Import and Export commands, refer to the electronic format of

located on the Microsoft Exchange Server compact disc in the MIGRATE\DOCS
directory as Appd.rtf.

utility section of Appendix A in the Microsoft Mail for PC Networks
