SUMMARY

The Microsoft Exchange client allows the user to search for specific messages in a folder by simply typing in the first few characters. This functionality is called Prefix Searching.

You can do a prefix search by following the steps below:
  1. Select and sort a column in ascending order inside the folder you want to search in. (For information on sorting columns refer to Online Help.)
  2. Type the first characters of the item you are looking for. As you type the characters in, the client will scroll through the messages until it cannot match anymore characters or until you locate the message you are looking for.

    For example, to find the Subject message THIS IS A TEST MESSAGE in the list of Subject Messages below, simply type THI and the client scrolls through the list and locates your message:

    TO TEST A MESSAGE
    THE TEST MESSAGE
    THIS IS A TEST MESSAGE

    NOTE: This searching ability will only work if you are sorting in ascending order. This does not work in descending order.
