Money: Error Message: Setup.exe Is Not a Valid Win32 Application (141267)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to run Setup for Microsoft Money or Works, you receive an error message similar to the following:
d:\setup.exe is not a valid win32 application

RESOLUTION

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Often, if you change the video display driver, this error message stops occurring. To change a video display driver in Windows, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Display icon.
  3. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
  4. Click Change Display Type (or click Advanced).
  5. Note the type of adapter that is listed in the Adapter Type box. (In Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition [Me], click the Adapter tab.)
  6. In the Adapter Type box, click Change.
  7. Click Show All Devices.
  8. Choose a compatible display driver.
    1. Select a manufacturer.
    2. Select a model.
    3. Click OK.

      NOTE: If you have a disk with a compatible display driver, click Have Disk.
  9. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  10. Restart Windows.
  11. If the new display driver is not compatible, Windows either offers to restore the old driver, or it restarts in Safe Mode. You can then return to the Control Panel and change the video display driver again.

If you're not sure what video driver to switch to, consult your video adapter manufacturer. If you have a VGA-compatible video adapter, you can try selecting Standard display types in the Manufacturer list, and VGA or Super VGA in the Model list.
