WD: Can't Change Orientation of PowerPoint Slide in Word 7.0 (140741)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q140741 SYMPTOMS
After you insert a Microsoft PowerPoint slide object into a Word document,
you cannot change the orientation of the slide using Word's in-place
editing capabilities.
CAUSE
PowerPoint uses the internal defaults for new presentations using the
Template, Pick A Look Wizard, or AutoContent Wizard options. The
orientation and size information is not supplied from the specified
template file, but from the internal PowerPoint defaults. Word 7.0 is
relying on PowerPoint's internal defaults by design.
PowerPoint 7.0 uses the saved information in the Blank Presentation.Pot
file only when you choose the blank presentation option. The Pick A Look
Wizard asks specifically for the type of output for this presentation;
however, a custom size is not an option.
RESOLUTION
To change the orientation of your slide object, use one of the following
methods:
Method 1:
Create the slide in PowerPoint, then insert the slide object in
your Word document. To insert the slide object in a Word
document, do the following:
- On the Word Insert menu, click Object.
- Click the Create From File tab.
Method 2:
Edit the slide in Open Edit mode instead of In-place edit
mode:
Word 97
------- - With the right mouse button, click the PowerPoint slide
object in the Word Document.
- On the menu that appears, point to Slide Object and then click
Open.
- On the File menu, click Page Setup.
- Change the slide orientation to Portrait, and click OK.
- On the File menu, click "Close and Return to <Document Name>."
Word 7.0
-------- - With the right mouse button, click the PowerPoint slide
object in the Word Document.
- On the menu that appears, click Open Slide.
- On the File menu, click Slide Setup.
- Change the orientation to Portrait.
- On the File menu, click "Close and Return to <Document Name>."
