"The Road Ahead" Err Msg: Media Control Interface Error... (140478)

SYMPTOMS
When you try to install the CD-ROM included with Bill Gates' book "The
Road Ahead," you may receive the following error message:
Media Control Interface Error
'avintro' MMSYSTEM 272 problem with the device driver. Check
with the device manufacturer about obtaining a new driver.
CAUSE
This error can occur if your video resolution is set to 16-bit color or
higher.
Note that this problem occurs with only certain video drivers; with other
drivers the problem may not occur when you are using 16-bit color.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, reduce your video resolution to 256 colors.
To do so, follow these steps:
- In Control Panel, double-click the Display icon.
- Click the Settings tab.
- In the Color Palette box, click 256 Color.
- Click OK.
