To resolve this problem, upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Word.
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.
Method 1 (Word 6.x and 7.x)
To retain password protection, attach password-protected documents from
within your mail program instead of sending them from Word.
Method 2 (Word 6.x for Windows Only)

Create the following macro to send the file from Word. Word saves the
file and uses the Wbmapi.dll MAPISendDocuments function. The file
Wbmapi.dll is located on the "Microsoft Word Developer's Kit" disk.
