SYMPTOMS

Money allows you to enter stock splits. Occasionally, a negative stock split may occur because fewer shares exist after the split than existed before the split.

In this case, if you enter a decimal fraction (such as .05) for the number of shares received for each share in a stock split, you receive one of the following error messages. In Money 99 or earlier, you may receive the following error message:
Please enter a number between 1 and 65,535.
In Money 2000 or later, you may receive the following error message:
Please enter a whole number between 1 and 65,535.

RESOLUTION

Multiply both the shares received and the shares surrendered by an integer that converts the fractional number into a whole number.

For example, if a negative stock split grants 0.024 shares for each share, multiply both numbers by 1,000 to give the result that shares will be split 24 shares for every 1,000 shares.
