In Microsoft Windows, you can start a program in a variety of ways. This article describes how to create a shortcut to a program on your desktop to start that program.

To create a shortcut to start Microsoft Money, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

  1. Right-click the desktop.
  2. Point to New, and then click Shortcut.
  3. In the Command Line box, type the location name and the name of the item enclosed in quotation marks.

    The item name for Money is Msmoney.exe. For example, type the following command line for Microsoft Money 2005 and later versions:

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe"

    The item name for Money is Msmoney.exe. For example, type the following command line for Microsoft Money 2001 through Microsoft Money 2004:

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\Msmoney.exe"

    For Microsoft Money 2000 and earlier versions, type the following command line where C is the letter of the hard disk, and where Money is installed in the Microsoft Money folder in the Program Files folder:

    " C :\Program Files\Microsoft Money\Msmoney.exe"

  4. Click Next.
  5. Type the name of the shortcut, and then click Finish.

    We recommended that you type Microsoft Money.
  6. To start the program, double-click the shortcut.

Method 2

  1. Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
  2. Locate the Program Files folder where you installed Money on the hard disk, and then double-click it to open the folder.

  3. Locate and then open the Microsoft Money folder.
  4. Drag the Money program icon out of the folder and onto the desktop.
  5. The Shortcut to Msmoney icon is copied to your desktop.
  6. To start the program, double-click the shortcut.
