The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 95
- Microsoft Windows 98
This article was previously published under Q135163 SYMPTOMS
If you close a 16-bit program that is listed as not responding in the
Close Program dialog box and then restart the program, you may receive a
general protection (GP) fault error message.
CAUSE
When you close a program normally, the program's dynamic-link libraries
(DLLs) are unloaded from memory. When you use the Close Program dialog box
to close a program that is not responding, the program's DLLs are not
unloaded and are not reinitialized properly when you restart the program.
RESOLUTION
Shut down and restart the computer.
MORE INFORMATION
This situation does not occur with 32-bit programs.
To access the Close Program dialog box, press CTRL+ALT+DEL.
