PRJ4: Can't Change Open File Status in Consolidate Dialog Box (134837)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for Windows 95 4.1
This article was previously published under Q134837 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project, when you consolidate projects using the Consolidate
Projects dialog box, if you change the value in the Open File field for one
of your projects, the value appears to change. However, when you display
the Consolidate Projects dialog box again for this consolidated project,
the value in the Open File field that you changed is back to the original
value.
CAUSE
The Open File field in the Consolidate Projects dialog box displays the
access method used to open the files you are consolidating, either read-
write or read-only. The value in this field is set the first time you
consolidate the files. By default, this value is Read-Write.
If you change the Open File value for a project that has already been
consolidated, for example, from Read-Write to Read-Only, the value appears
as Read-Only in the Consolidate Projects dialog box. However, after you
consolidate the projects, when you display the Consolidate Projects dialog
box again for this consolidated project, the value displayed for this file
appears again as Read-Write.
Note that in Microsoft Project version 4.0, when you change the value in
the Open File field for a project in the Consolidate Projects dialog box
after consolidated the project, the field immediately displays the original
value, indicating that you cannot change this value.
RESOLUTION
To change the Open File status for a project that you have already
consolidated, do the following:
- In the Consolidate Projects dialog box, click the project for
which you want to change the Open File status.
- Click Cut Row.
- Click OK to consolidate without this project.
- On the Tools menu, click Multiple Projects, and then
click Consolidate Projects. Click Yes to edit the
existing consolidated project.
- Add the file back again either by typing the filename or by using
the Browse button. Click the Open File field for this
file, and in the list of items, click Read-Write, or
Read-Only. Click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
