This article was previously published under Q131858 SYMPTOMS
When you use the Open or the Save As dialog box, one of the following
symptoms may occur:
- The first time you save a file, it is saved in the wrong folder.
-and-
- When you try to open a file, the application displays the wrong folder.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you click the down arrow in the Look In list of
the Save As dialog box or the Open dialog box. If you move the mouse over
the list of folders and drives, and then click the down arrow again, the
application selects the folder that was last highlighted.
Other applications, such as WordPad, do not behave this way; they retain
the most recent selection unless you specifically click on one of the
folders displayed in the list.
WORKAROUND
To avoid this behavior, make sure that the folder/drive that you want is
selected before you click the arrow, press TAB, or in general, take the
focus away from the Look In or Save In list in the Open or Save As dialog
box.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the applications listed
above. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
