SYMPTOMS

After you apply a Financial AutoFormat to a cell range in a Works spreadsheet, the number formatting of some cells changes. Some numbers may turn to a month and others may be preceded by a dollar sign, corresponding to the format changes shown in the Sample box in the AutoFormat dialog.

Regular text inside the selection is not affected.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works versions 3.0, 3.0a, and 3.0b for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

The changed cells can be returned to their original format by using the Undo command from the Edit menu if the AutoFormat was the last command executed.

If AutoFormat was not the last command executed, do the following.
  1. Highlight the range of cells to which you applied the AutoFormat command.
  2. On the Format menu, click Number.
  3. Click the number format the cells originally used, for example: General.

MORE INFORMATION

Use of other AutoFormat styles (non-financial) does not change the number format of the selected cell range.
