This article was previously published under Q125902 SYMPTOMS
Windows NT Backup may stop responding (hang) when you restore a backup set
on a Compaq five gigabyte tape drive. This problem occurs when compression
was used to backup.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because of a problem in the compression chip on some
Compaq five gigabyte tape drives manufactured between January 1994 and
April 8, 1994. If the problem is caused by the compression chip, Windows NT
Backup hangs at the same point every time you attempt to restore the backup
set.
