SYMPTOMS

If you install the fonts included with Disney's Lion King Print Studio into Windows and use the fonts in WordArt or Publisher, you may get the following error:
Invalid TrueType Font Detected.
An Application used a TrueType font that caused an error in Windows.
Quit all applications, then restart Windows.
After this error occurs, all the TrueType fonts on the screen will either not appear at all, or they will appear as characters different than what you are typing on the keyboard.

CAUSE

The error occurs because the Disney's Lion King Print Studio TrueType fonts have an invalid kerning table. The kerning table keeps track of how much space to put between each character to make them look evenly spaced.

RESOLUTION

Disable automatic kerning in an application to stop this error from occurring. WordArt and Publisher turn on automatic kerning by default.

To disable automatic kerning in WordArt:
  1. In the WordArt menu bar, choose Spacing Between Characters from the Format menu.
  2. Clear the Automatically Kern Character Pairs check box.
To disable automatic kerning in Publisher:
  1. In Publisher, choose Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Choose View More Options.
  3. In the Kern Character Pairs Above box, type the number 999.5 as the point (pt) size. This instructs Publisher not to kern a font below a point size of 999.5. Valid numerical point size values are within the range of 0.5 and 999.5.

MORE INFORMATION

PowerPoint has no automatic kerning and will not produce this error message. Word 6.0 has automatic kerning set to off. The error will only occur in Word if you manually enable kerning.
