SYMPTOMS

When you save a file to the same floppy disk from which your file was opened, and you are using one of the printers and drivers below:

Canon BJC-600, printer driver version 2.0b, 2.0c, 2.0d
Canon BJC-600e, printer driver version 1.0
Canon BJC-4000, printer driver version 1.x
Canon BJC-210, printer driver version 3.01

the following error message may be generated:
Sharing Violation on Drive X.
where X is the floppy drive where the document was opened from.

The sharing violation occurs only when a file is being saved to the same floppy disk from which it was opened. This error does not occur when saving to a hard drive or when saving from the A drive to the B drive or vice versa.

WORKAROUND

With the sharing violation error message on the screen, choose Cancel and the file will still save.

RESOLUTION

A sharing violation will not occur if you complete the following steps:
  1. Remove or use the REM command to remark out SHARE.EXE from your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. See your MS-DOS manual for more information.
  2. Add VSHARE.386 to the [386Enh] section of the SYSTEM.INI file. The line should read as follows:

    device=vshare.386

    NOTE: VSHARE.386 must be in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory. It currently ships with Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and Works for Windows 3.0a and 3.0b.
  3. Make sure Windows is running in enhanced mode.
