SYMPTOMS

Cells formatted with a double border in the Spreadsheet will paste only a single border into the Word Processor if the gridlines are turned off, and if the area with the border in the Spreadsheet was selected for the copy.

RESOLUTION

There are three workaround methods available for this situation.

NOTE: For best results in Works 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a, use Method 2.

Method 1

Turn on the gridlines in the spreadsheet before copying the cells. Note that this will copy the double border and the gridlines.

Method 2

Copy the cells surrounding the border also (for example, if the border was around B2:C3, then copy cells A1:D4). This will appear OK in the Word Processor if there is no data in the surrounding cells.

Method 3

Add a second border in the Word Processor using the following steps:

  1. Paste the cells with the double border onto a blank line in the Word Processor document.
  2. Select the object pasted in the step above, and then click Border from the Format menu.
  3. Select Outline, and then choose OK.
  4. Adjust the right indent so that the single border in the Word Processor document appears to be part of a double border around the object.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior also occurs when pasting Works Spreadsheet objects into other word processing applications such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Write.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a new spreadsheet in Works.
  2. Select some cells, and then click Border from the Format menu.
  3. Select Outline and a double border, and then click OK.
  4. From the View menu, verify there is not a check next to Gridlines.
  5. From the Edit menu, click Copy.
  6. Create a new Word Processor document in Works.
  7. From the Edit menu, click Paste.
Notice that the cells are pasted into the Word Processor with a single border instead of the double border selected in step 3 above.
