Installing Multimedia Works for Windows Version 3.0 (116016)

SUMMARY

This article contains the system requirements and installation procedure for version 3.0 of the multimedia edition of Works for Windows.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • 16MHz 386 SX or higher
  • MPC Compatible Audio Board (8-bit digital sound or better)
  • MPC Compatible CD-ROM drive
  • VGA or VGA+ display
  • 4 MB of RAM
  • Headphones or Speakers
  • MS-DOS version 3.1 or later
  • Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX) version 2.2 or later
  • Microsoft Windows version 3.1 or later
  • Hard disk with at least 6 MB (minimum installation) to 20 MB (full installation) free
NOTE: The box for the Works for Windows, multimedia edition, version 3.0 incorrectly states that you can use Microsoft Windows 3.0 with Multimedia Extensions.

INSTALLING THE MULTIMEDIA EDITION OF WORKS

  1. Insert the Works CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. If your are using Windows 3.1, choose Run from the File menu in Program Manager. If you are using Windows 95, click the Start button, then click Run.
  3. In the Command Line box, type <drive>:\setup, where <drive> is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  4. Choose OK.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
During the installation, you will have the option to select a Complete, Minimum, or Custom Installation. Select Complete Installation if you want to install all the functionality of Works (20 MB free hard drive space required) or Minimum Installation to install only the minimum number of files required to run Works (6 MB free hard drive space required).

MORE INFORMATION

The main files for the Works multimedia edition must be installed on your system's hard disk. The Help, Tutorial, and the User's Guide files will always remain on the Works CD. These files cannot be installed to the hard disk.
