SUMMARY

If the network administrator forgets the administrative password and there are no other administrator-equivalent users on the network, a new NET.ACC must be installed on the server. This article explains how to do it.

Sometimes during initial setup stages of a LAN Manager server, the Administrator changes the ADMIN password and then forgets it. If there is no other user name with Administrator privileges, the NET.ACC must be replaced; this returns the client to the state wherein the Administrator account password is set to PASSWORD and no other user names exist.

Diskette needed: LAN Man OS/2 Server
WARNING ***** This removes any user names and ******** WARNING
              file permissions already entered
              into the LAN Man accounts file.
				
  1. Stop all services on the server with these commands:

    NET STOP SERVER
    NET STOP WORKSTATION

  2. Connect to the C:\LANMAN\ACCOUNTS directory.
  3. Rename NET.ACC to NET.OLD
  4. Decompress the file NET.AC$ off of the OS/2 diskette into the C:\LANMAN\ACCOUNTS directory:
       DECOMP A:\ACCOUNTS\NET.AC$ C:\LANMAN\ACCOUNTS\NET.ACC
(The DECOMP.EXE program should exist already under the C:\LANMAN\NETPROG directory. For help on DECOMP type in DECOMP ? at the C:\> prompt.)

  1. Start the Server services again and logon as ADMIN using the default password: PASSWORD

    NET START WORKSTATION
    NET START SERVER
    NET LOGON ADMIN
