ClipArt Object Size Is Reset When a New Picture Is Chosen (112155)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 3.0
  • Microsoft Works for Windows 95, version 4.0

This article was previously published under Q112155

SUMMARY

NOTE: This article applies to Works for Windows clip-art images. When used in Works, some clip-art images from other products, such as Publisher, do not size in the same manner as native Works clip-art images.

When you select a new clip-art image to replace a picture that has previously been resized, the size is reset for the new clip-art image.

Choosing Undo from the Edit menu returns the original picture with the size you scaled it to.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior is by design because ClipArt Gallery objects do not recompose when they are resized. When the object is updated to new presentation data, the scaling is automatically reset to 100%.

Steps to Reproduce Problem:

  1. Create a new Word Processor document.
  2. From the Insert menu, choose ClipArt.
  3. Select an image and choose OK or press ENTER.
  4. From the Format menu, choose Picture (under Works 4.0). Under Works 3.0, the command is Picture/Object.
  5. Select the Size tab and set both scaling width and height to 75.
  6. Double-click the object to open ClipArt Gallery or choose ClipArt from the Insert menu.
  7. Select a different image and choose OK or press ENTER.

You will see that the image will be sized differently than the original object.
  8. From the Edit menu, choose Undo.
Under Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a the original image will be returned, but the size will be that before the scaling was applied in Step 5. Under Works 3.0, the original image will be returned with the scaling you selected.
