Excel Toolbar Shown in Works when Excel Object Is Not Active (112154)

SYMPTOMS

If you have inserted an Excel Spreadsheet object into a Works Word Processor document, switching between Microsoft Windows-based applications may cause the Excel toolbar to display when there is not an Excel object active.

CAUSE

This occurs when you switch to another application while the Excel object is still active (bordered with the diagonal hatch marks).

RESOLUTION

To return to the correct behavior, click outside the Excel object, on the document it is embedded in, to return to the Works toolbar.

To prevent this behavior from occurring, remember to click outside the Excel object before switching to another application or creating an additional Word Processor document.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a new Word Processor document.
  2. From the Insert menu, choose Object.
  3. Select Microsoft Excel Worksheet and choose OK or press ENTER.
  4. With the Excel object still active, note that the toolbar changes to the Excel toolbar.
  5. From the File menu, choose Create New File. Note that the toolbar switches back to the Works toolbar.
  6. Press ALT+TAB to switch to another running application.
  7. Press ALT+TAB to switch back to Works.

    Note that even though the new Word Processor document is in the front and there isn't an active Excel object, the toolbar that is shown still belongs to Excel.
  8. From the Window menu, choose the first Word Processor document you created.
  9. From the Window menu, switch to the second Word Processor document again. Now the toolbar will be correct until you switch to and from another application.
