To set the communications settings under Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a

1. When the Easy Connect dialog appears, cancel this window.
2. From the Settings menu, choose Communication.
3. Click on the modem to be used, then click on Properties.
4. Click on General, then set the baud rate to the correct setting.
5. Click on Connection, then set the Data bits, Parity and Stop Bits settings for the desired service.
6. Click OK.

To set the communications settings under Works 3.0

1. When the Easy Connect dialog appears, cancel this window.
2. From the Settings menu, choose Communication.
3. Click to clear the Ignore Parity check box.
4. Choose the Data Bits, Parity, and Stop Bits settings for the service. Click OK or press ENTER.

CompuServe

To log onto CompuServe, set the following:

1. Choose 7 Data Bits, Even Parity, and 1 Stop Bit.
2. Baud-rate settings depend on your modem, although CompuServe does currently support a 9600 baud rate.

BIX ("BYTE" Magazine's Online Information eXchange Service)

To log onto BIX, set the following:

1. Choose 7 Data Bits, Even Parity, and 1 Stop Bit.

GEnie (General Electric Network for Information Exchange)

To log onto GEnie, set the following:

1. Choose 8 Data Bits, None Parity, and 1 Stop Bit.
2. Select the Terminal tab and choose Local Echo. Choose OK or press ENTER.

TymNet

TymNet is a modem dial-in that provides access to Bank of America's Home Banking Service and other host services.

To log onto TymNet, set the following:

1. Choose 8 Data Bits, None Parity, and 1 Stop Bit.

If connection is established and text is not readable, use step 1 below to clear bad characters. If step 1 is not successful, use step 2.

1. After receiving a line of non-readable text, wait three seconds and type a capital A.
2. Set modem parameters to 7 Data Bits, 1 Stop Bit, and Even Parity.

MSN (Microsoft Network)

To log onto MSN, set the following:

1. Choose 8 Data Bits, None Parity, and 1 Stop Bit.
2. The phone number to access MSN is determined by your location.

Most Bulletin Board Services (BBSs)

Most computer bulletin board services (BBSs) require communications settings of eight data bits, no parity, and one stop bit. The Works for Windows Communications module defaults to these settings when first opened.
