Works Err Msg: Invalid Maintenance Table (111660)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to set up Works 3.0 and receive an error message that includes the words "Invalid Maintenance Table," your SETUP.STF file may be corrupt. Note that this problem can also occur if you turn off your computer before Works Setup has completed its installation.

The above error message occurs under the following conditions:

You double-click the Setup icon from the program group to try to run the maintenance mode of Setup. This error will occur almost immediately, when Setup checks for installed parts of Works.
You try to reinstall Works by running SETUP.EXE from Disk 1 of Works 3.0 and the SETUP.STF file in the Works 3.0 SETUP directory is corrupted. Works looks through the WIN.INI file for the [MS Setup (ACME) Table Files] section. If it finds the path to the Works 3.0 SETUP.STF file and this file is corrupted, the error occurs.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, use the following steps:

Open the WIN.INI file in a text editor such as Notepad.
Remove the
MSWORKS.EXE@v3.0.0.261 (US English)=C:\WORKS3\setup\setup.stf
line from the [MS Setup (ACME) Table Files] section of the WIN.INI file.

NOTE: The entry for Works 3.0a will be MSWORKS.EXE@v3.0.0.273 The entry for Works 3.0b will be MSWORKS.EXE@v3.0.0.275
Save the WIN.INI file and exit Notepad.
Exit and Restart Windows. -or-
Delete the SETUP.STF file located in the following directory
X:\MSWORKS\SETUP
where X is the letter of the drive on which Works is installed.
Run Setup from disk 1 and install Works again.

NOTE: If your SETUP.STF file is corrupt, you will not be able to uninstall Works. This file is used in the uninstall process as well as during Setup.
