The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 2.0
- Microsoft Works 3.0
This article was previously published under Q111379 SYMPTOMS
When opening a rich text format (RTF) file in Works 3.0, one of the
following error messages may occur:
MSWORKS caused a General Protection Fault in
MSWORKS.EXE module 0068:019C.
Cannot load conversion files.
When opening an RTF file in Works 2.x, one of the following error messages
may occur:
Cannot load conversion files.
Conversion File not Available.
CAUSE
The general protection (GP) fault occurs if the line for the MSWORKS3WIN
converter is missing from the [MS Text Converters] section of the WIN.INI
file.
The "Conversion File not Available" occurs if the line for the MSWORKSWIN
converter is missing from the [MS Text Converters] section of the WIN.INI
file.
The "Cannot load conversion files" error messages occur if the line for the
MSWORKS3WIN (Works 3.0) or the MSWORKSWIN (Works 2.x) converters are
pointing to an incorrect location on the hard drive.
RESOLUTION- Make sure the MSWORKS3WIN (or MSWORKSWIN for Works 2.x) converter line
is in the WIN.INI file.
- Make sure the path for the MSWORKS3WIN (or MSWORKSWIN for Works 2.x)
converter is pointing to the correct converter and the converter is
in the location specified by the path.
An example of the necessary entry in the WIN.INI file is:
MSWorks3Win=Works 3.0 for
Windows,C:\WINDOWS\MSAPPS\TEXTCONV\wks3win.cnv,wps
