SUMMARY

If your Word for Windows mail merge ("print merge" in Word 2.x) main document is attached to both a separate header file and a separate data file, you cannot remove a single attachment without removing both attachments.

MORE INFORMATION

For example, if you want to remove the header file attachment when you add a header record to your data document, you must use the appropriate method below.

Word 6.x and Later

Restore the document to a normal word document and then reattach the data file only.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Mail Merge.
  2. Click Create and select "Restore to Normal Word Document..."
  3. Click Yes to continue.
  4. Click Create and select the type of mail merge document you want to create.
  5. Click Active Window.
  6. Click Get Data to attach your data source.

Word 2.x

Remove both the header and data document, then reattach the data document.

For information on attaching and removing data and header documents to a mail merge main document in Word 6.0, search for "mail merge" using the Help menu and select Advanced Techniques.
