MS-DOS Prompt Hangs if Windows 3.1 Started wi LM Logon Script (102743)

SYMPTOMS

The MS-DOS prompt hangs in Microsoft Windows 3.1 if you use the LAN Manager logon script while starting Windows.

CAUSE

The NETAPI code that handles logon processing fails to release file handles properly.

RESOLUTION

Use NETAPI.DLL hotfix CSD00.037.

STATUS

Resolved by CSD00.037, included in the LM22 Patch.

STEPS TO DUPLICATE CONDITION

  1. Boot RPL client.
  2. Net logoff.
  3. Start Windows 3.1.
  4. Log onto a LAN Manager domain account using a logon script.
  5. After Windows starts up, attempt to start an MS-DOS prompt.
  6. No prompt is displayed, the MS-DOS prompt hangs.
