-----------------------
(1) SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-----------------------

  Linux kernel version 2.2.X
  Pentium II with 3D accelerator card (see below)
  64 MB RAM required (128 MB recommended)
  Video card capable of 640x480 resolution
  XFree86 3.3.5 or newer at 16bpp
  OSS compatible sound card
  Hard disk with at least 550 MB of space

This product is not intended for use with any version of the Windows
operating system.

This product supports 3D accelerators through OpenGL. Consult
http://lokigames.com/support/gldrivers for the latest news on drivers
and installation.

----------------
(2) INSTALLATION
----------------

To apply the Unreal Tournament 428a patch simply execute the patcher with

$sh ut-patch-428a.run

--------------------
(3) PLAYING THE GAME
--------------------

Run 'ut' to start the game.

The first time you run Unreal Tournament it will create a ~/.loki/ut
directory. Preferences, etc., will be stored here.

----------------------------
(4) LINUX SPECIFIC CHANGELOG
----------------------------

The new options in the UnrealTournament.ini file are

[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
RecvSizeMult // multiplier for SO_RCVBUF value
SendSizeMult // multiplier for SO_SNDBUF value

only modify those when you know what you are doing! Also keep in mind
that you have to manually raise the maximum limit doing a

echo VALUE > /proc/sys/net/core/rmem_max
echo VALUE > /proc/sys/net/core/wmem_max

where VALUE is the value you want to set it to.

[SDLGLDrv.SDLGLRenderDevice]
UseTNT // workaround for TNT/TNT2 cards

Set this to one if you experience problem with your TNT/ TNT2 cards

OpenGL renderer

- fixed performance issues
- fixed memory leak
- added UseTNT
- adjusted brightness if you use multitexturing

Input

- fixed key repeat problems

Sound

- minor ALAudio changes

Network

- added RecvSizeMult and SendSizeMult option

----------------
(5) KNOWN ISSUES
----------------

OpenGL Renderer

- Z Buffer artifacts with 16 bit rendering
- No detail textures (did anyone notice this before?)

Software Renderer

- doesn't work in 32bpp mode!!!

(6) TROUBLESHOOTING
-------------------

The following are some of the more common problems you might have, and
recommended solutions. For more details see the support section on
www.lokigames.com and visit our bug reporting system at

http://fenris.lokigames.com.

Q: The game segfaults when trying to use windowed mode with the Glide
   renderer.

A: Glide doesn't support rendering in a window.

Q: Most of the time when I connect to a server on the internet it starts
   downloading "multimesh".

A: It is strongly advised that you install the official Bonuspack available
   at http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10044-108-58371.html?bt.dl-10008.EpicMegaGames.10044-108-58371
   which includes the required files to play on most internet servers nowadays.

Q: I am rendering in windowed mode and the mouse is grabbed in the window.

A: You can press CTRL-G to change between grabbing or not. Alternatively
   you can change the UnrealTournament.ini file

Q: The game crashes and I can't switch back to my normal resolution using
   CTRL-ALT- +/-

A: After running "xvidtune -unlock" you can change resolutions normally.

Q: I installed the Glide[OpenGL] Renderer as default but now want to use
   the OpenGL[Glide] renderer.

Q: I want to use the Software Renderer.

A: Edit the following lines in either
   (INSTALL_PATH)/System/UnrealTournament.ini or
   (HOME)/.loki/ut/System/UnrealTournament.ini

   To use the OpenGL renderer:

   [Engine.Engine]
   GameRenderDevice=SDLGLDrv.SDLGLRenderDevice
   WindowedRenderDevice=SDLGLDrv.SDLGLRenderDevice
   RenderDevice=SDLGLDrv.SDLGLRenderDevice

   To use the Glide renderer:

   [Engine.Engine]
   GameRenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice
   WindowedRenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice
   RenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice

   To use the Software renderer:

   [Engine.Engine]
   GameRenderDevice=SDLSoftDrv.SDLSoftwareRenderDevice
   WindowedRenderDevice=SDLSoftDrv.SDLSoftwareRenderDevice
   RenderDevice=SDLSoftDrv.SDLSoftwareRenderDevice

   Global settings are made in (INSTALL_PATH)/... and local ones in your
   home directory. When you first run Unreal Tournament it will copy the
   version of UnrealTournament.ini from (INSTALL_PATH)/... to your home
   directory and from there on only use the one in your home directory.

Q: How can I specify my OpenGL library?

A: You can choose the OpenGL library Unreal Tournament tries to use
   by specifying the path to it in your UnrealTournament.ini

   [SDLGLDrv.SDLGLRenderDevice]

   OpenGLLibName=libGL.so.1

   or

   OpenGLLibName=/opengl/library/path/libMYGL.so

Q: I am using XF 4.0 with my 3dfx card and the textures look really
   weird. When I exit the game I can see a "No space for texture"
   error message.

A: This is a bug in DRI that got fixed recently (07/31/00). You have
   to use the CVS version of DRI.

Q: The towers seem to flicker in CTF-FACE.

A: If you have a 3dfx card please choose the Glide renderer. Otherwise
   try to use 32 bit renderering which should resolve the issues you
   are seeing and also will enhance the display quality.
